Why you should be careful with images

We all know that pictures can say a thousand words, are great for grabbing attention and can be used nicely to break up content on a page.

But if you’re going to use words like “people just like you”, maybe avoid using a scary army-rapist-looking guy with a touch of ‘roid rage and a facial expression suggesting he’s about to beat me to death with his bare fists for glancing in his direction.

scary guy

Hey Twitpic - that guy is not ‘people just like me’.

He scares me and puts me off the idea of joining your social network.

It all depends on who the target audience is I guess ;-)

I gather they overlooked his scary face in hopes of attracting the young and fit.

I love your description of this guy!

Perfectly put, Twitpic is a great app and spoilt by a poorly thought out placement.

Also, when viewing these sites at work you tend to get a “so that’s what you’re into” sort of look from colleagues. Definately puts me off using Twitpic
