Twitter and context

Paul Boag has just posted a story on Boagworld reminding us of the consequences of off-hand twittering that can be taken out of context.
The gist of it is he was going to a family Christmas dinner, and got stuck on flooded roads along the way. While he was stuck in traffic he tweeted:
This [...]

Why you should be careful with images

We all know that pictures can say a thousand words, are great for grabbing attention and can be used nicely to break up content on a page.
But if you’re going to use words like “people just like you”, maybe avoid using a scary army-rapist-looking guy with a touch of ‘roid rage and a facial [...]

This is where we live

I’ve posted before about my love of stop-motion - it’s just the most aestetically pleasing medium, I’m not sure why photographs are so much more interesting than video but they just are.
The 4th Estate took 3 weeks and a bunch of animators to make This Is Where We Live, a beautiful animation that combines [...]

Barter for an awesome “work dress”

Via Virginia Murdoch, I’ve discovered OurGoods, “a peer to peer network for the exchange of goods and services between artists, designers, craftspeople, and anyone with a creative project.”
Their first project is the Work Dress, a cross between an apron and a tool-belt.

Interestingly, it’s not for sale, it’s only available by bartering goods - so [...]

Pick your own granny

No sooner had I published my last post about Emblogger (in under ten minutes too), then I stumbled across GoldenHook, a website that allows you to create your own beanie, then select the granny who’s going to knit it for you.

It’s such a cute idea, kind of like Innocent Drinks with their Big Knit [...]

That’s a dedicated blogger

I’d say about half of my blog posts are banged out in under ten minutes, and I forget what I’ve written soon after that.
Over at Embloggery, Nicole Wolfersberger hand-embroiders each entry. Yep that’s right, sews them by hand.

The idea with this project is to examine the implications of the fact that we [...]

Ignite is coming to Sydney

Exciting news - Ignite Sydney just launched its website today. Ignite was initially started in Seattle by the O’Reilly group - it’s a style of presentation where each presenteter is given 5 minutes, 20 slides, 15 seconds per slide, and the chance to talk about anything they’re interested in.
It’s kind of similar to Pecha [...]

Pepsi stirs controversy - but understands social media

Adage blogged a few days ago about a new Pepsi campaign that has exploded on the web. Pepsi created a print campaign for an edgy German magazine - it appears their target market is young, provocative, anti-establishment, etc.
The campaign theme is around there being one calorie in PepsiMax - the calorie becomes so lonely [...]

Inside a frozen pizza factory

The BBC (via Kottke) has a fascinating video of a tour inside a frozen pizza factory. (You have to sit through an annoying ad before the video).
The pizza factory produces 2 million frozen pizzas a week - a very scary statistic. They don’t look like anything I’d ever want to eat but it’s cool [...]
