A Google experiment

Cheryl Lead is Cheryl Gledhill. Cheryl Gledhill changed her name from Cheryl Lead. Cheryl Gledhill (who was Cheryl Lead) is sad about losing all the Google love that was stored up under Cheryl Lead.

Bah. It’s the one frustrating thing about changing my name (well, apart from dealing with the banks, the post office, the change of business cards, etc). It’s also strange to have gone from a unique name to a fairly common one - my family were the only Leads in Australia so I still find it weird when I meet other Gledhills.

My biggest gripe (apart from losing the Cheryl Lead google results) is all the chavs and bogans with the name Cheryl Gledhill. I’m scared someone looking me up will think it’s me! For the record, I have never owned a pair of white jeans, and I don’t live in Northern England and I don’t look like I beat people up all the time.

Anyway I’m just filling in a profile about my experience and thinking that if they do Google me (first thing I would do) they’re not going to find much. Hey if you’re googling cheryl gledhill, follow up with “cheryl lead”.

Wow, I would have thought that Lead was a common name. But there it is in the White Pages — one Lead. :)

Yeah it’s funny eh. Seems like it should be really common… but there are only a few of us in the world.

The big problem with the name Lead, on google at least, is you get all the “Cheryl - Lead singer” or Cheryl lead the group down the path….

What about “Cheryl Gledhill nee Lead”?

Cheryl Gledhill on July 30th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

Ben - yeah I know that’s the “proper” way to do it but I can’t bring myself to say it or write it - it makes me feel like I live in 1860 or something. It just feels way too old-fashioned.

What’s wrong with Northern England?
