The paper web

Deeplinking have a great article on original paper sketches and prototypes of popular internet applications such as Twitter, Flickr and Vimeo.

Flickr prototype

The original sketch for Flickr Places.

I find this really interesting as I’m currently working on a job where I’m wireframing using paper and I find it so difficult. The idea was it was faster than using Photoshop as I could just scribble, but the problem is with my spacing - I know in Photoshop I can specify 100×100 pixels, whereas drawing I’m hopeless. My paper prototypes look crowded and messy as my handwriting is crowded as messy. And how do you draw a gradient with a pen?

I am taking comfort that my paper wireframes are no messier than the Flickr one above. I’m going to stick with it for this project but I really do prefer using Photoshop. You can’t move around layers or resize using a pen and paper!

What about using Post-Its on the wall? You can move them around easily.

But your writing will still be messy - not even 3M can help there.
