I’m a few days late on this one (they were even talking about it on Triple J before I watched it) but the new Weezer video clip brings together heaps of awesome internet memes - and not just cut together but they’ve actually found them and brought them into the studio.
I love how much work went into this - and I love that Gary Brolsma (the numa numa guy) looks exactly the same, in the same bedroom. There are even some characters in there that I didn’t realise had become such a meme (like the daft punk girls - my favourites).
The whole video has had me searching Youtube for the ones I didn’t recognise but it’s kind of scary how much of my brain space has been taken up by remembering Miss Carolina, the OK Go guys, the dramatic chipmunk, and Chocolate rain. I did have to look up who that ninja guy was though… I feel so out of the loop.
It’s a great clip and a great song. Weezer always create such brilliant clips - remember the video for Buddy Holly? I do think they’ve missed an opportunity for this clip by not involving Rick Astley though - in fact, they could have made the entire song a Rickroll.
