Gruen Transfer takes all your wrinkles/worries away

There is a new show starting tonight on the ABC called the Gruen Transfer, “a show about advertising, how it works, and how it works on us.”

Three Drunk Monkeys (great agency, terrible website) have created some fantastic ads to go with it, for Gruen Beauty, Gruen Beer and Gruen Bank. Apparently the ABC was flooded with complaints after they aired as people thought they were real and the ABC was finally allowing advertising.

I really love the one for Gruen Beauty as my pet hate (or should that be complete and total rage) is about awful beauty ads and how they are trying to prey on our fears - the ones I hate the most are the ones about “reversing aging” or “looking young forever”. I don’t want to look young forever, I want to look my age - since when did it become acceptable to want to look like a teenager? I couldn’t wait to leave my teens behind, you couldn’t pay me to go back there.

And don’t even get me started on the hypocritical Dove Campaign for Real Beauty. Ughhh. Campaign for Real Beauty to sell more skin cream and anti-cellulite gel. Anyway Unilever, Dove’s parent company, also owns Slimfast and Lynx, the most sexist advertising out there so they can’t very well campaign for “real beauty” with one hand and then have big-breasted bikini women selling men’s deodorant on the other.

Anyway rant over. Watch the Gruen Transfer ads and switch on ABC at 9pm tonight.
